Complete renovation of a specialized care unit while the hospital remains open

The Seligenstadt Clinic did not previously have a unit for early neurological rehabilitation. It had to be designed and built from the ground up. chore bauen GmbH handled the entire renovation and managed the project from the initial demolition work through to the completion of the unit.

Seligenstadt Clinic - Neurological early rehabilitation (NFR) ward

Scope of the construction work

The work encompassed all major aspects of interior construction: from extensive rough-in and demolition work to the final completion of a fully equipped specialist ward.

Planning and Hygiene Protocol

In close consultation with the medical staff, the specific requirements of the NFR ward were identified and translated into a detailed spatial concept:

  • Needs assessment and concept development in consultation with healthcare professionals
  • Taking into account the specific mobility limitations of this patient group in all spatial and technical decisions
  • Development of a hygiene plan for the construction phase and subsequent ward operations
  • Ensuring that the hospital's ongoing operations were not compromised at any time

Rough construction and demolition work

The project began with extensive demolition work, during which the entire existing structure of the station was demolished:

  • Complete dismantling of the floors
  • Removal of all bathtubs and plumbing fixtures
  • Removal of the existing power rails

Specific Challenges and Potential Solutions

Highly complex specialized care unit with specific requirements

01

The NFR unit did not previously exist at the Seligenstadt Clinic and had to be designed from scratch. As a highly complex specialized care service, early neurological rehabilitation places unique demands on building structures, technical equipment, and spatial design—all of which required close coordination between the medical staff and the planning and construction teams at chore.

Tight schedule during ongoing clinic operations

One of the key challenges was to meet the tight schedule while ensuring that the rest of the clinic’s operations continued without interruption. Through careful phased planning and efficient coordination of all trades involved, we were able to complete all work on schedule without disrupting ongoing patient care.

State-of-the-art unit for early neurological rehabilitation providing the highest standard of care

The result of this comprehensive renovation is a state-of-the-art ward that enables optimal patient care at the highest level. Of particular note are the modern patient rooms, which feature multifunctional wall-mounted systems and supply rails that fully support the nursing and medical procedures involved in early neurological rehabilitation.

Particular emphasis was placed on creating an accessible, wheelchair-friendly design with ample space for movement to meet the specific needs of patients in early neurological rehabilitation. The Seligenstadt Clinic now has a facility that meets the highest standards and is ideally equipped to fulfill its mission of providing early neurological rehabilitation care.
