Private Dermatology Practice at Schweizer Platz

Bright rooms, clean lines

Complete renovation of the practice while it remains open for business

The private dermatology practice on Schweizer Platz in Frankfurt am Main was taken over by its new owner in a state of disrepair: heavy fixtures, dark surfaces, and a lack of comfort.

chore renovated the entire practice space in two phases, creating a work environment that feels bright, welcoming, and spacious despite its compact footprint. All work was carried out in compliance with the hygiene requirements of a medical facility and without interrupting the practice’s ongoing operations.

Scope of the construction work

The project involved a complete redesign of all areas of the practice, ranging from the treatment rooms to the common areas and restrooms. The initial plan did not focus on structural renovations, but rather on a comprehensive renewal of all surfaces, fixtures, and furnishings—in close consultation with the practice owner and our interior designer.

Demolition and Dismantling

To begin with, the outdated fixtures were completely removed. The heavy, dark furniture and existing surfaces were professionally dismantled and disposed of to lay the groundwork for a new look and feel.

Carpentry and built-in fixtures

A key part of the redesign involved the fabrication and installation of custom cabinetry solutions. To make optimal use of the available space, work furniture with a depth of only 45 cm was installed. In addition, custom-made storage solutions were created to meet the demands of daily practice. Specially manufactured metal cannula disposal bins were integrated into the work surfaces—a functional detail that directly supports medical operations.

Plumbing work

The patient restroom was completely rebuilt as part of the renovation. Unlike the rest of the practice, where clear design guidelines set the parameters, there was room here for a more personalized design.

Flooring and painting

New flooring was installed throughout the entire space. Subsequently, all wall and ceiling surfaces were given a fresh coat of paint. The color scheme was chosen to reflect the practice owner’s preferences: light, understated tones that give the practice a friendly and spacious feel without overwhelming the space with bold accents.

Specific Challenges and Potential Solutions

Renovation within strictly limited time frames

01

During the first phase of construction, which involved four treatment rooms, work was permitted only from Wednesday through Saturday, while the rest of the practice continued to operate without restriction during that time. The schedule was particularly tight because subsequent trades—especially the carpenter—depended on the timely completion of preliminary work. By increasing the number of staff on site, all deadlines were reliably met.

High-traffic areas in the second construction phase

The second phase of construction focused on the areas with the heaviest foot traffic from patients and staff: the reception area, hallways, and common areas. The only time available for this work was the period between Christmas and New Year’s. Here, too, thorough advance planning was crucial to completing all the work within the tight timeframe.

RheinMain-Med: Conversion of a dental practice into a general practice

The result: a modern practice with a distinctive style

An outdated, cramped practice has been transformed into a bright, functional workspace that combines the practicalities of daily medical practice with an inviting aesthetic. Light colors, sleek built-in fixtures, and well-designed storage solutions give the rooms a spacious feel despite their compact footprint. The project was completed on schedule in early 2026.
