Electrical refurbishment of the staff dormitory at Lich Clinic
chore carried out a comprehensive upgrade of the entire electrical installation in the staff residence at the Lich Clinic. The comprehensive measure was necessary due to new legal and fire protection regulations. The building was constructed in the 1970s and some of its use was also changed, so it had to be adapted to the current statutory building regulations and therefore urgently upgraded.
Scope of the work
The core of the renovation was the installation of a new supply line from the property's low-voltage main distribution board over a distance of 175 meters. Where possible, existing cables in the building were reused. The work also included extensive core drilling, cable laying and drywall, concrete and masonry work.
Special challenges
The building, which has eight storeys and two basement levels, presented the team with a variety of challenges:
Places for new flush-mounted sub-distributors had to be found and chiseled out on each floor. The supply lines were installed via a 20-metre-high light well on two separate cable routes. The resolution of cross-floor installations was particularly complex in order to ensure a clear allocation of the electrical supply per floor.
The entire refurbishment also had to be carried out while the training center, HR department, training rooms and geriatric day clinic remained in operation. The existing fire protection concept required new installations in all escape routes, the extent of which could only be determined after extensive measurements. A particular challenge was maintaining the main IT server, which had to remain in continuous operation thanks to a specially installed bridging of the power supply from another part of the building.
Due to the individual conditions on each floor, the sub-distribution boards were manufactured by hand. The crossing of numerous fire compartments required special fire protection bulkheads. A new electrical operating room for the building's SV main distribution board had to be specially constructed in F90 quality
The result
The refurbishment now ensures the highest possible system availability and operational safety of the entire electrical system as well as optimum protection in the event of a fault for residents, users and the operator. Complete new electrical plans were drawn up for the property, existing cabling was checked for safety and a comprehensive installer certificate was issued with all the necessary documentation and approvals. The functionality of all newly installed equipment was ensured and documented through tests and measurements.
